Hiking

Our over 900 km marked hiking and walking paths between the Kitzbühler and Ziller Valley Alps offers a beautiful picture book mountain setting. The unique location is known as a hiker’s paradise and guarantees every Alphof guest pure mountain pleasure!

The Summer lifts in the Alpbach Seenland offer walkers good and varied choices taking hikers up to very different hiking areas. Shortly before arriving in Alpbach - Austria’s most beautiful village – you reach the Wiedersbergerhornbahn, a 6-seater gondola taking hikers up to approx. 1.900 m at the foot of the Wiedersbergerhorn peak. Hikers will surely enjoy a walk up the peak of the nearby Wiedersbergerhorn or a full day tour via the Sagtaler Spitzen to Inneralpbach. Not only are you rewarded with magnificent views, your feet haven’t had so much fun in a long time! If you’re lucky you can see marmots or Alpine Choughs.

And this is just one of the several hiking options offered around the Alphof Hotel.

On your heights, get set, go!

The active Alphof

Over 30 huts and inns cater for your needs along the hiking and walking paths of the region.

As well summer as winter you can visit the alpine Restaurant Roßmoos in half an hour walk. This quaint spot near Hotel Alphof is an insider’s tip for every gourmet.

The Zottahof at 2,000 m above sea level is a must! The hut can be reached in an hour walk and also by car. Being there you should try “Reinhilde’s Kaiserschmarrn”!

We recommend our Alphof guests to try the “Speck- und Kasjausn” (cheese and bacon snack) at Jausenstüberl Oberthaler. Most of the products served there are from their home - made production.

Don’t miss the Faulbaumgartenalm - at 2,000 m obove sea level you can reach it in 2-3 hours walk. Too long? Take the way from Inneralpbach and save half the way!

Also the Summer Lifts take hikers up to very different hiking areas in the Alpbachtal Seenland offering walkers good and varied choices: Hornboden and Dauerstoa Alm with their fantastic panorama view can be reached for free with the summer lifts, just to name two!

Places worth seeing

Rattenberg – The charming crystal village
With some 400 inhabitants Rattenberg is the smallest town of Austria. Since 1820 Rattenberg is known for glass finishing. You can’t resist taking a look over the glass blowers shoulders into the “Mysterious World of Crystal”.

The medieval pedestrian area is dominated by show glass businesses. To create such wonderful works of glass art the glass blowers must be extraordinarily talented. Glass engravers and painters demonstrate their art, too.

Its abundance of crystal glass shops continue the tradition of craftsmanship. The medieval castle above the roof´s of Rattenberg was built in the 10th century. Eventhough Rattenberg is the smallest town of Austria, the annual castle festival and the authentic Rattenberg advent make the town the cultural centre of the region.

The Museum of Tyrolean farmhouses - one of the most visited destinations in Tyrol
The largest open-air museum of Tyrol is located in the municipality of Kramsach, near to Alpbach. An air of nostalgia hangs over the old farms and their interesting pasts. Fragments of rural Tyrolean architecture have been collected and brought together in the Tyrolean Farmhouse Museum. This is where you can visit 14 farmhouses with annexed buildings like blacksmith, mill and chapel as well as small animals like geese, ducks and chicken, as these animals make part of life in a farmhouse. I feel myself transported to the „Tyrol of old“ and go about discovering these witnesses of a culture of the past.

One of the highlights in the Tyrolean Farmhouse Museum is the annual “Kirchtag” fair. This is when activities are presented, providing an insight into rural life. Local farmers provide for your creature comforts. And on a regular basis there are special afternoons for children in summer.

Also in numerous events visitors can set their hand, e.g. making clogs, grinding knifes, knipling, baking bread, making cheese and stirring butter.

Particularly charming is the old school bringing back days long forgotten. The whole museum is brought to life by the animals and colourful farmers' gardens.
